This drawing — part of series inspired by the landscape of Deer Isle ME — features a morning view of Sand Beach during the change of tides. As the water recedes, the prior progress of the waves are recorded in staggered wracklines of seaweed, seashells, and bits of debris. The waves surge over and around the granite boulders, while the shadows of trees sway with the movement of the trees stirred by the breeze.

In this drawing, I was attracted to the variety of textures (sand, sea, sky, rocks, trees) and the challenge of depicting the transparency of the water and play of shadows and reflections.
