Inspired by many locations along the Maine coast, here we see spruce trees growing above the tide line on a rocky shore against a moody sky.

This was created from two impressions: the first in black ink and the second pass in blue. After thinking about it for some time, I decided to add the second color because I felt the first impression was too pale. The textures I had hoped would print in the sky and sea failed to transfer, and some of the shadows on the shore were not as dark as I would have liked. For the second color, I cut a piece of frosted mylar to size so that I could line up the registration. I placed the mylar over the print and traced the main composition elements with a permanent marker. Then, I flipped the mylar over and applied the blue ink where I wanted it, using the traced lines as a guide. When ready, I then carefully laid the mylar inky-side-down on the re-dampened print (careful not to smudge it), and ran that sandwich through the etching press a second time.
