Ledges No. 1

Monotype print in blue ink on rag paper, 11.75 x 10 inches (29.85 x 25.40 cm)

This print was inspired by the rocky shore of Deer Isle, Maine. The island is mainly composed of basalt and granite, ledges of which poke into the sea, creating sheltered coves. In some places the pyroclastic and tectonic history of the bedrock is on full display, with the layered stone rippling and twisting upon itself, further cracked and eroded by glacial action and eons of wind and waves.
