Monotypes

A monotype is a print, but a singular impression from an image created directly on the plate and not repeatable as an edition. It may be possible to create a new impression from the “ghost” of the previous, but that then becomes a stand-alone print.

Inspired by the landscape of coastal Maine, these were created by applying oil-based ink onto a zinc plate in a painterly additive and subtractive manner, then impressed upon dampened 100% rag paper with an etching press. The results are not entirely predictable.
